Distracted driving causes injuries and death every day in the United States. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 15 people die each day in accidents in the United States as a result of distracted driving.

One man knows how dangerous distracted driving can be. The college student was texting and driving when his car went off a cliff. He suffered a broken neck and fractured skull in the accident and sustained a traumatic brain injury.

Ironically, just before the crash, he sent a text message that read, "I need to quit texting, because I could die in a car accident.

The college student did survive the horrific crash. He is hoping his story reminds other drivers to ditch their cell phones when they get behind the wheel.

"They just need to understand, don't do it. Don't do it. It's not worth losing your life," the man said.

It is illegal to text and drive in Maryland. However, that may not stop some people from doing it. Sadly, another driver's negligent behavior can cause tragedy and heartbreak for many people. A collision that is caused by a distracted driver can leave people with devastating, and sometimes fatal, injuries.

Although no amount of money can take away the physical and emotional scars, accident victims who are injured because of another driver's reckless actions have legal options. They may pursue a personal injury lawsuit against any negligent parties. After all, people who show blatant disregard for the safety of others on the road should be held responsible.
