With the official start of summer only weeks away, many drivers may be in a hurry to get to the beach, but they should be aware that law enforcement officials are stepping up their patrols and setting up speed traps in order to curb speeding.
The national program is called Smooth Operator and it will mean more speed traps and it will target aggressive drivers. The goal of the program is reduce car accidents in Maryland and around the nation.
According to an Ocean City police spokesman, "If you're going to come to Ocean City and you're going to speed, it's probably going to become very expensive for you, in more ways than one."
Seat belt use and speed enforcement are some of the top priorities for the summer and Maryland State Police will occasionally set up large "stopping teams" in several common areas for speeding, to slow down drivers, stop cellphone use and seat belt enforcement.
Officers aren't looking to make quotas, but to make a safer summer season. They understand how car accidents affect everyone involved.
Accidents are a part of our daily lives and if you've been involved in one because of the possible negligence of another driver, you should contact a personal injury attorney. They understand that you could miss work, your bills pile up and you worry about whether your insurance company will cover your losses. These physical, emotional and financial strains can be overwhelming. An experienced attorney can be your advocate and help you figure out your options and provide you with an approach that fits your situation and benefits you the most.
