Baltimore Law Blog

The thought of childhood brings back great memories for many Baltimore residents. Individuals often remember the joyous times they experienced as a child, when there seemed to be no worries in the world.

Unfortunately, not all children are able to experience these carefree times, as a serious injury can drastically alter a child's life in both the short-term and for years to come.

For instance, last week, this blog discussed the staggering number of child injuries that occur through the use of fireworks. These incidents can result in serious injury to the child, including injuries to the child's extremities, head trauma, scarring and disfigurement.

The consequences of these injuries are severe. Medical expenses can greatly exceed the costs of what a person's insurance will cover. The child might also need one or more surgeries, along with physical therapy for weeks, months or longer. Aside from the physical injuries, the child often also experiences serious mental trauma from the incident, effectively robbing the child of the joys of childhood.

All of these factors can play into an award of damages in a personal injury action. When children are injured through the negligence of another person, damages can be awarded based on the medical expenses incurred by the child, along with damages for pain and suffering, disfigurement and other factors.

Our firm understands the toll a serious injury can take on a child. We have experience in helping the child and his or her family obtain relief for the injuries, including substantial awards of damages to account for all of the different kinds of consequences that are suffered because of the injury.
