With the official start of the summer season just around the corner, many Baltimore children are looking forward to a few months of playtime before school returns in the fall. During this time, children occupy their days through different activities, whether they be organized activities or playing with friends. Unfortunately, many children are injured during the increased playtime, even during the most basic activities.

One recent case of child injury made national headlines due to the seemingly bizarre nature of the injury. Three young children were playing in an inflatable bounce house when a strong gust of wind sailed the unit off the ground. One of the children fell out of the bounce house and was fortunate to have only suffered minor injuries.

The two remaining children were not as fortunate, as they fell about 15 to 20 feet from the ground, causing one to suffer two broken arms and injuries to his face. The other child went into a coma because of head injuries suffered in the incident.

While it is easy to dismiss a case like the above as a freak accident, the fact remains that many children suffer playground injuries each year. These injuries can increase dramatically when the equipment itself is defective and not well maintained. Moreover, when adults who are responsible to watch the children fail to do so, the children can be injured as a result.

Child injuries can lead to a personal injury lawsuit if another person's negligence caused the accident. Whether this means a defective piece of playground equipment caused the equipment, or an adult who failed to properly care for the children, all depends on the circumstances. Accordingly, when children are injured, individuals should consider consulting a personal injury attorney to determine whether another person can be held liable for the incident, particularly when the injury is severe.
