Henry L. Belsky
Of Counsel

Henry Belsky, a founding member of SBWD Law, has been a fierce advocate for his clients for over fifty years. Throughout his years building his career, he has had the opportunity and privilege to practice within various areas of the law, including criminal litigation and business transactions. Now, as the chair of our litigation team, he focuses on complex litigation matters involving medical malpractice, personal injury and products liability. Henry’s creative thinking, extensive experience, and deliberate trial strategy have earned him the respect of many practitioners in the Maryland legal community.

To Henry, being a lawyer is not about accepting the first settlement that is offered, but rather about working with the client to help them achieve their best possible outcome. Henry has handled numerous serious injury cases throughout the State and Federal Courts, including one notable case in which represented a high school aged client who was significantly injured when his vehicle went under the trailer end of an eighteen wheeler. The insurance company quickly saw that the truck driver was at fault because he failed to yield the right of way, and offered a settlement to make the case “go away.” However, Henry knew that his client’s injuries were so catastrophic that it would necessitate around the clock care for the rest of his life, and this settlement offer would not begin to cover those costs. Instead of accepting the offer, Henry investigated the company that hired the driver and held them culpable for hiring a driver that they should have known would be a danger on the road. Finding a way to hold the company liable for its negligence allowed Henry to achieve a significant reward of adequate funds for the mother of his client to leave her job and devote herself to the care of her son. In practice, Mr. Belsky’s strategy is to make the best of a bad situation, and his goal is to restore his clients to the same or as similar a situation as they were in before they were involved in an accident caused by the negligence of others.

Henry has been an AV rated Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell for thirty years. The “A” portion indicates the highest possible rating for legal ability, while the “V” portion indicates adherence to the highest standard of professional conduct.

Prior to the practice of law, Henry spent his undergraduate career at the University of Maryland in College Park. Henry received his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland.

Outside of his responsibilities at the firm, Henry is on the board of the R Baby Foundation and the co-president of the Maryland chapter of the R Baby Foundation in Baltimore, which is the first, and only, foundation of its kind focused on ensuring that all emergency rooms are equipped to provide lifesaving care to babies and children. The R Baby Foundation is committed to assisting in the administration of optimal pediatric emergency training, research, treatment and equipment, and is a cause to which Henry and his family are deeply committed.

When it comes to litigation, if you believe the adage that necessity is the mother of invention, you must also believe, as I do, that tenacity is the mother of success.
