The “19 Kids and Counting” Star Now Faces Up to 20 Years in Prison
On December 9, a federal jury convicted former reality TV star Josh Duggar of receiving and possessing child pornography. Rise to Fame
Josh Duggar rose to fame on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting.” The show documented the life of the Duggars and their children, airing from 2008 until 2015. Jim Bob and his wife regularly touted their family values and deep Christian faith, including encouraging their children to save their first kiss for their wedding day.
Over time, the Duggars built an empire selling books, albums and attempting to enter local politics. Josh, for his part, earned a position as a lobbyist with the conservative Family Research Council.
Fall from Grace
After eight seasons, the tv show was canceled when allegations surfaced that Josh had been investigated as a teenager for molesting his younger sisters. Josh resigned from his position with the Family Research Council, and the family attempted to move past the bombshell police report detailing the sexual abuse.
Only a few months later, the family’s reputation would once again be put to the test when a hack of the dating website Ashley Madison revealed that Josh had frequented the site on multiple occasions. The website encourages consenting adults to engage in extramarital affairs. Josh apologized for his indiscretions, checking into a rehabilitation program shortly thereafter.
Federal Charges for Sex Abuse
In April 2021, Josh was arrested on federal charges of receiving and possessing child pornography. According to reports, the investigation revealed that multiple images of child sexual abuse had been downloaded onto a computer at the car dealership owned by Duggar.
Sentencing on the case is expected to happen in around four months. Josh has a wife and seven kids. His father, Jim Bob, is currently running in a special election for a vacant Senate seat in Arkansas.
