Maryland Drivers Beware Car Accidents More Likely In Northeast

With the holiday season quickly approaching, Baltimore drivers will be hitting the roads en masse to do their gift shopping and go to various work, family and social events. The hope is that everyone will be able to do these tasks and events safely, but unfortunately, that is not always the case. Indeed, according to new data, drivers in this part of the country may be more likely to get into a car accident than individuals in any other part of the country.

The numbers come from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, which show that a car accident occurs every 10 seconds. Drivers from the northeast are at a higher risk of being involved in a car collision.

Multiple factors were blamed for the higher rate of crashes in the northeast, including individuals driving at a more excessive speed, more congested roads and increased construction areas. The CDC study also showed that distracted driving was the top cause of accidents, including texting while driving and other forms of not paying attention on the road.

Ultimately, for those who are injured in car accidents, the injury is the most important issue to address to ensure a person regains his or her health to the extent possible. However, the cause of the accident can be vital in determining whether the other person was a negligent driver that can be held responsible in a personal injury lawsuit. For example, if the other driver was texting while driving at the time of the crash, the driver likely violated rules of the road barring that kind of activity. The accident would likely not have occurred but for the other driver’s texting, and therefore the driver can be ordered to pay compensation to the injured person.
