The accident occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 on Route 50 near Route 424/Davidsonville Road. Maryland State Police were called to the scene along with Anne Arundel County firefighters and emergency medical responders. When they arrived, they found two vehicles severely damaged from the head-on collision, one of which had caught fire before the response teams arrived.
Firefighters worked to put out the flames that lit up the morning sky. They were eventually able to contain the fire which had started in the engine compartment of the vehicle.
Together, the teams were able to extract four people from the twisted metal. Medical officials determined that it was too late for three of the victims who were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person was seriously injured and was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. There he struggled to stay alive but eventually lost the fight.
Maryland State Police continue diligently investigating the head-on collision to determine the cause of the crash. If negligence was involved in causing the fatal accident, families of the victims may be able to find justice for their loved ones in a court of law and seek compensation for their loss.
