Maryland Teenager Struck Killed While Watching Soccer Game

It was supposed to be a fun evening watching a local soccer game, but a tragic turn of events claimed the life of a 13-year-old Maryland girl and injured another woman, when a car ran up a curb and struck them near Eastern Middle School in Silver Spring.

According to reports, the 13-year-old girl, along with the other woman who was injured, were watching the game at the school earlier this month, when a 2008 Ford Escape hit a curb in the school’s parking lot, struck the two subjects and eventually hit a sign and a tree. The teenager later died as a result of her injuries, and the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

There were allegedly three people inside the vehicle at the time of the accident, and all are not cooperating with investigators, according to reports. The cause of the fatal auto accident is still unknown.

Should the family of the 13-year-old girl decide to file a wrongful death lawsuit, investigators will need to reveal that the driver’s negligence caused the accident. If found negligent, the driver may face criminal charges, in addition to providing financial relief to the victim’s family members. Oftentimes, a wrongful death lawsuit may follow a criminal trial. Compensation for wrongful death suits cover things like funeral costs, medical bills and pain and suffering damages, to name a few.

Although nothing can bring back the 13-year-old girl, her family should not have to suffer financially because of someone else’s actions. Maryland residents who may find themselves in a similar situation may want to speak with a personal injury lawyer prior to filing a wrongful death lawsuit, to get a sense of what the process entails.
