Summer Travel Season Underway With Accidents Looming

Another Memorial Day weekend has come and gone for Baltimore residents. For many, this means summer has started, even if the official start date may be a few weeks away.

In addition to being the unofficial start to summer, Memorial Day weekend is also known as one of the busiest travel times during the year, with millions of individuals taking to the road for good times with friends and family. What’s more, heading into Memorial Day weekend this year, AAA expected to see the biggest influx of traffic on the road in a decade.

In fact, over 800,000 residents of Maryland were expected to be travelling over the weekend. Most of these individuals, about 90 percent, were expected to travel with their vehicles instead of flying.

In light of these high numbers, road officials expressed concerns over the safety of those on the road. With that many people on the road, car accidents are virtually unavoidable, although law enforcement planned to crack down on speeding and other forms of dangerous driving.

Of course, even on the least busy travel weekend of the year, individuals can become involved in a car accident. Indeed, car accidents occur for all different kinds of reasons, many of which are not related to how busy the roads may be at any given moment.

While car accidents occur frequently across the state, individuals are not left without recourse. If they are injured by another driver’s negligence, individuals can recover compensation for their injuries through a personal injury lawsuit. Accordingly, simply because car accidents may be unavoidable or happen with frequency does not mean that individuals cannot obtain relief after being injured.
